“In a typical example of postmodern irony, the ‘Savage Kitty’
issue contains absolutely no kitties nor savagery of any kind.
What it does contain is a variety of humorous essays and articles
including ‘How I Became Not a Virgin,’ a tour guide to Beautiful
Tillamook, Oregon ‘Where the Ocean Meets the Sea,’ an essay
by a really eloquent potato reflecting on its life, and a
savage satire of the ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ series of
books. Hey- I guess the ‘Savage Kitty’ issue contains some
savagery after all!”

Psychedelic Science Fiction - Spring 2005 - Logos Not Logos
Paging:
40 pp
Description:
"Logos not Logos
This is the incredible first issue of our zine project Psychedelic
Science Fiction.
Includes visionary black and white art from 4 outstanding
artists. Short and serialized fiction with a science fiction-y
bent from 4 up and coming young writers.
Excerpt from "Starter Pistol Go" by Brian T. Hughes:
'Miranda Cadabra: sore, lawless, disengaged, American, twenty-one,
blonde and neurochemically engulfed in a furnace of crackling
blue flames, stood outside smoking in a light drizzle on the
corner of Sunrise and Alhambra. Of course she was holding,
but at some point, she’d lost track of whether she was out
to clock or meet someone, and now she wasn’t doing either,
just loitering, f---ed up, way too confused to walk. She should
have been alarmed, but Miranda was equally accustomed to distraction
and disorientation. She’d been in this situation before--
a lot, really-- and found she could usually manage the sweeping
memory lapses. As both a salesman and criminal, Miranda had
always improvised better than she planned, and anyway no matter
what now that she thought about it she would really have to
be cautious either way. People always surprised you.'
A fat 40 xeroxed pages! Real magazine size: 8 1/2 x 11
Balance of literature and artwork."
This is the sophomore follow-up to Issue 1. It features many
of the same artists and writers, with several talented new
additions.
32 pages chock full of beautiful and weird illustrations
and visionary black and white art. True quality sci-fi short
stories including part 2 of the captivating serialized novel
"Reef" by Brian T. Hughes. Take a 23rd century trip
with some of the inmates of the Great Barrier Reef space station
and witness a psychedelic awakening.

48 pp
Description:
"Yeah, It Is! was funded by the Xeric Foundation, an
organization that gives money to independent comic book artists
for publishing purposes.
This 48 page, full color comic was made out of construction
paper. It follows the story of a young girl named Mack on
a series of small adventures after her best friend moves away
to a distant suburb. She mopes about, gets a tarot reading,
hangs out with old friends, and gets drunk for the first time.
This comic got me a Harvey Award nomination for "Best
New Talent"!
"Michael Bowman's Nova Feedback is
also easy on the eyes. The first five issues
collect a hot bouquet of drawings and
collages that range from extremely casual
to speed-freak-detailed. Some of them have
a very '50s animation feel to them (although
the subject matter has a tendency to be bit
perverse) and it would be mighty interesting
to meet a woman who was covered with his
designs as tats."

Title:
Little Titans
Paging:
68 pp
Description:
“Nescio (Latin for ‘I don’t know’, pseudonym of J. H. F.
Gronloh, 1882-1961) is one of the best Dutch writers of the
20th Century, but sadly unavailable in English – until now!
This edition offers a translation of Nescio’s classic 1915
novella ‘Titaantjes’.
‘Little Titans’ is set in Amsterdam around 1900 and deals
with a group of ‘boys-but nice boys’ who are discontent with
just about everything. Their bosses control their time, girls
are always out of reach, the sun refuses to be painted, and
the God they’re hoping for never comes. Full of youthful bravado,
they plot to change the world once and for all – only to fail
before even starting. The book is a hard but compassionate
look at the inevitable loss of the idealism and hope of youth.
With Nescio’s subtle sense of humor and keen eye for minute
detail, the book is still fresh and relevant, 93 years after
its first publication. Translated by Sam de Groot and Ian
Adams, distributed by True True True Amsterdam at a non-profit
price. 5.5” X 3.5”, 68 pages, mimeographed in sky-blue on
high quality paper, sewn and glued with cover.”

Nightly Zine Issue #1
Paging:
23 pp
Description:
Nightly Zine is a half-size DIY/perzine by Rupa Nolan.
The zine consists of fiction, humourous how-to tips along
with brief essays and observations. Released by the independent
publishing house Glass Jar Project Publications in the winter
of 2007, it will continue as a quarterly publication. The
first issue, 'The House Warming Issue' is printed in black
and white and finished in leather and ribbon. Appealing to
anyone who has lived in an house or an apartment, or who knows
someone who has. Finding an audience of social mis-fits, drunk
house-wives and kareoke addicts, the zine offers potentially
impractical how-to advice, as well as art, general scribblings
and observations from dark and personal places.
Nightly zine began in South Korea, created by a British born
editor, Rupa Nolan. It reflects feelings of displacement,
confusion, loneliness and happiness. Born out of Journal Anon,
an online anonymous art project, Nightly Zine is a credited
hard copy of concept over practicality.

Retarded Sentimental - A Treatise on Time Travel Through
Translucency
Paging:
10 pp
Description:
Collection of writing, artwork, and original watercolors
by Tommy Rayburn.
“Like a hollow skin, translucent materials
let the viewer pass through their space and in to those beyond.
It is a belief in their powers of immateriality that allow
one to become immaterial; it is as if by covering objects
with them gives them the power to transcend also. “Drink to
forget” They are ghostlike; Patterned bedroom sheets pressed
firmly against our bodies to travel as phantoms in sleep.
A piece of fiction functions similarly to a piece of scotch
tape or a film negative when held up to the light. Both condensed
and gelatinized by our memories and projections, which simultaneously
fade through to the surroundings of the viewer. The translucent
medium, which causes a sort of ectoplasmic entropy, serves
as ground zero for disembodiment. Through them you can proceed
through masses, through space, through time, and most significantly
exist in more than one place at more than one time. This is
where disorder becomes apparent; this is where order becomes
an apparition.”

"In the digital age, as mass culture continues to homogenize
our surroundings, one could argue that, in a sense, location
is coming to mean less and less. Yet it is largely our location
that determines the experiences that shape our lives and our
perspective on it. And we, in turn, collectively shape these
very same locations, whether we are doing it consciously or
unconsciously. It is clear that people and their locations
are inextricably linked, but what exactly is our relationship
to these places we inhabit? What determines why we stay located
in a given place or move to another? More importantly, what
do these locations mean to us? This zine was made in an effort
to answer some of these questions and raise awareness of the
role that our surroundings play in our lives." - John

Description:
Dan Hack zine printed entirely by Gestetner mimeograph with the exception of the covers, which were printed by the Heyer hectograph at the IPRC where Dan teaches a mimeograph workshop.
“The Faithful is a story of epic scope about simple people on a peculiar quest. Gerald is driven to appear on a popular family television game show. The fact that he does not even have a family is beside the point, his theory being that a family “ . . . constructed by the free choice of its members makes a hell of a lot more sense than one forced in to existence by bad statistics and some unfortunate breeding . . .” To this end Gerald sets out around the U.S., confident that he and his fellow “family members” will drift toward each other and this common destiny of television ( and unrequited kinship) by the raw power of human intuition, Mother Nature, and accidental geography. The Faithful is not merely about some charismatic drifter on a wandering tangent collecting co-conspirators in dead end pursuit of a crackpot Hollywood scheme, it is a multi-layered, distinctively textured chronicle of one man's search for a family he could never have, discovering (as so many have before him) that he can reinvent himself on the open road of the American West.”

In the premier issue, he reports on the war between bicycles and cars, recounts his survival (barely) of a night dancing to 80s music, and records a debate on the future of humanity featuring Deepak Chopra and Britney Spears."
